Grey Wolves Defeat Dodgers, 7-5
|
Brooklyn first baseman Bill Chaundler had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Chaundler was 1-3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3, even as Vancouver beat the Dodgers, 7-5. Chaundler was named the player of the game despite the loss. Gerardo Pagán, the winner, improved to 5-2. He held the Dodgers to 2 earned runs on 4 hits over 5.1 innings, while striking out 2 and walking 2. Quan Shiu got credit for the save for Vancouver. It was his 5th of the year.
Vancouver relied on the hitting of Phil van Oosterom to pick up the win. The second baseman ripped a 2-run single in the top of the first inning to put the Grey Wolves on top, 3-0. For the game, van Oosterom had 1 triple and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"We need to keep playing good baseball," van Oosterom told the Vancouver Chronicle.
Vancouver now sits at 31-34, while Brooklyn falls to 40-25.
