Lakers Win at Panama City, 2-1
|
The Lakers had to overcome a fine performance from Panama City pitcher Masahiro Sakei to grab a 2-1 win at The Tank. Sakei allowed 2 earned runs over 8.1 innings. Gabriel Alvarado got the win, improving to 1-3. He worked 5.1 innings, giving up 1 run on 3 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 4. Ed Abood was called on to finish, recording his 5th save.
It could have been a different outcome for Echo Park, had it not been for Phil Gillespie, the 30-year old first baseman . Gillespie contributed a solo home run in the top of the third inning to put Echo Park up, 2-0.
"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Gillespie.
Echo Park is now 18-43, Panama City 37-24.
