Lighthouse Edge Past Rocketeers, 7-6
|
The Long Island Lighthouse stopped the Seattle Rocketeers, 7-6, at The Lighthouse. The Lighthouse got a big game from Eugene Bennett, who went 4 for 4 with 4 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. At 29-20, Long Island is in second place in the Third League.
Bennett had a game-changing single in the bottom of the ninth. On a 2-2 fastball from Gregory Powers, he banged a run-scoring single to right-center, giving the Lighthouse a 7-6 lead. It was the 71st hit of the year for Bennett.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Seattle manager Andrew Powell. "But we decided not to take it."
