The Panama City Piranhas got a sterling performance from pitcher Neil Franson, but the Stingers still prevailed, 4-3. Franson was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 6 innings of 3-hit ball. Toledo reliever Ricky McCauley picked up the win to move to 1-0. Jonathan Lentz suffered the loss. Mike Tate was credited with the save for Toledo, his 1st of the season.
Joey Trifone, who won the Outstanding Hitter Award in 2034, contributed to the Toledo win with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the seventh. For the game, the first baseman had 2 hits in 3 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 runs batted in.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Panama City manager Brian Talamante. "But we decided not to take it."
The win pushes Toledo to a record of 3-3.
