Riding the 4-hit performance of the 25-year old third baseman Keith Pick, the Virginia Beach Whales stopped the Yakima Hops, 6-2. The win was credited to Olaf Solleveld in relief. His record improves to 2-1. Mario Herrera took the loss. Eduardo López closed the door for Virginia Beach, picking up his 4th save of the year.

The Whales grabbed the lead in the top of the second. With one out, Xavier Mercier hit a 2-run home run off Mario Herrera, putting Virginia Beach in front, 3-0. For Mercier, it was his 8th home run of the season.

"Baseball is about momentum," said Pick, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."

Today's win puts Virginia Beach at 32-26, while Yakima falls to 28-30.
