Despite a fine performance by shortstop Tony Randolph, the Ithaca Fighting Imps suffered a 6-5 loss to the Irving Blue Sox. Randolph was 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Irving reliever Rich Young picked up the win, upping his record to 7-1. Jimmy Whitney took the loss. Chun-yeong Byung-Ho got credit for the save for Irving. It was his 8th of the year.

It could have been a different outcome for Irving, had it not been for Rick Newell, the 24-year old center fielder . Newell contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the ninth inning to put Irving up, 6-5.

"We'll pop the top on a cold one and get back to work tomorrow," Newell said.

Irving goes to 31-21. The win puts them 2˝ games up in their division.
