Whales Lose to Blue Sox in Walk Off

Irving beat Virginia Beach at Blue Sox Ballpark, eking out a 4-3 win. The win was due in large part to pitcher Rich Young, who earned player of the game honors. Irving reliever Sterling Wheeler picked up the win to move to 2-1. Bu-wei Zhenya suffered the loss. The Blue Sox' win now puts them at 29-20.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Duff Eckstein came to bat in the bottom of the 12th. Facing Virginia Beach pitcher Olaf Solleveld, he hit a 2-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Irving on top, 4-3.
Eckstein said this kind of win gives the team "a buzz."
