Whales Come Back Late to Clip Youth
The Virginia Beach Whales defeated the Phoenix Hotspur Youth, 8-5, at Grenadiers Ballpark today. Leading the charge for Virginia Beach was center fielder Jamal Grant. He was 2-5 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Virginia Beach reliever Ronald Bader was the winner. His record is now 2-2. Ernesto García took the loss. The Whales sit in 4th place in the Silver AA with a record of 25-23.

Virginia Beach used the timely hitting of Jon Deal to capture the win. The first baseman socked a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Whales ahead, 8-5. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.

"You know, at the end of the day, it's about who scores the most runs," said Virginia Beach manager Bernie Drake.
