Hops Win at Ithaca, 5-2
|
The Yakima Hops beat the Ithaca Fighting Imps, 5-2, at Imps Park. The Hops got a fine performance from left fielder Tony Rincón, who captured player of the game honors. He was 2-4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Sake Bravenboer, the winner, improved to 3-2. He held the Fighting Imps to 2 earned runs on 5 hits over 6 innings, while striking out 6 and walking 1. Hendrikjan Zweers nailed down his 5th save.
Rincón came through with some timely hitting for Yakima. With the score 0-0 in the top of the third and one down, Rincón hit a 1-2 fastball for a 2-run home run. His 2nd home run of the season made it 2-0, Yakima.
Rincón attributed the win to "energy and focus on the part of everyone."
The Hops, at 11-15, sit in 8th place in the Silver AA.
