Almost There: Portland On Cusp of R2038 Triumph After 3-1 Win
Despite a great performance by Charleston starter Tony Alfonso, the Portland Evergreens defeated the Battery by the score of 3-1 at Charleston Armory today. Alfonso threw 6 innings of 2-hit ball to earn player of the game honors, but could not prevent the Evergreens from moving one game closer to the Round 2039. Portland now leads the Round 2038 - .

Portland used the bat of Billy Dotson to get the win. The third baseman hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Evergreens ahead, 3-1. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it did its damage.

Dotson called the win "a collective effort."

Game 2 is scheduled for tomorrow at Charleston Armory in Charleston. The scheduled starters for the game are Cristián Moreno for Portland and Melvin Tiburcio for Charleston.
