Long Island Breaks Through for First Win in PL R Championchip; Now Trails 2-1
|
The Long Island Ducks have closed some of the gap between themselves and the series-leading Hudsonville Flanderses, winning 3-2 at Field of the Toros today. Ducks right-hander Govaart van Ankeren was named player of the game after he threw 8 innings of 5-hit ball. The win cuts the deficit facing the Ducks to 2-1 in the best-of-5 PL R Championchip.
The Flanderses had trouble solving van Ankeren, who surrendered 2 earned runs on 5 hits over 8 innings.
"We were a little off-kilter to start the series, but we're getting things figured out now," Long Island manager Luis Díaz told reporters. "At least I hope we are."
Game 4 is scheduled for tomorrow. Slated to start are Erwin Shelley for Long Island and Ratko Peric for Hudsonville.
