Flanderses Win to Extend Series Lead to 2-0
|
Hudsonville Flanderses manager Altti Salo knew it was a gamble to give the start to a rookie. It was a good gamble to take.
Pitching in front of a hostile crowd, 18-year-old left-hander Wynn Kelley silenced the host Long Island Ducks at Ducks Park today. The Flanderses shut out the Ducks by a final score of 10-0, to give the Flanderses a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-5 PL R Championchip.
The Flanderses benefited from a costly error in the top of the fifth. With Cristo Lucas at bat and Hudsonville leading 1-0, the Long Island miscue allowed Hudsonville to plate 2 and take the lead, 3-0.
"We aren't quitting," Long Island manager Luis Díaz said. "Yeah, the odds are definitely in their favor, but they've got to earn it."
The next game is scheduled for Friday, September 11th, 2037 in Hudsonville. Slated to start are Erwin Shelley for the Long Island Ducks and Alan Haas for the the Hudsonville Flanderses.
