The New Orleans Voodoo moved to within one game of the Round 2 today, downing the Thunder Bay Northern Lions BC on the road at Great Northern Field by a score of 5-1. Voodoo left-hander Lawrence Lane was named player of the game after a strong outing in which he threw 6 innings of 5-hit ball. The win gives the Voodoo a - advantage in the best-of- United States Premier League Championship.
New Orleans used the clutch hitting of Guy Toussaint to capture the win. The second baseman drilled a bases-clearing double in the top of the fourth inning to give the Voodoo the lead, 3-0. For the game, Toussaint had 1 single and 1 double in 4 at-bats.
"Best-of- series are brutal," Thunder Bay manager Scott Williams said. "You can get into trouble so fast. We can't afford any mistakes now."
