On the verge of being swept and facing a red-hot Cleveland Browns team, the Greenville 84s had a tough assignment. Doug Allerdale delivered.

The 84s catcher was unstoppable for the visitors, as he was 3 for 6 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 6 in guiding his club to its first victory of the series, 15-10. Allerdale, 28, was named player of the game for his efforts. The win means Greenville now trails - in the best-of- series.

Allerdale's key contribution came in the top of the third when he sent a first pitch fastball into left for a grand slam home run. It put the 84s ahead, 13-0.

"I'm not sweating it," Cleveland manager Greg Diersing told reporters after the loss. "We'll recover. They say it's all about winning games, but I would put up with a heck of a lot of losses as long as we hoist that trophy at the end of the year."
