Almost There: Greenville On Cusp of R1 Triumph After 3-2 Win
|
The Greenville 84s took the first game of the United States Premier League Championship in dramatic fashion today, topping the Hollywood Shredders with a ninth-inning walk-off 3-2 victory. Shredders pitcher Jason Starkey put up a productive, if futile, game and was selected player of the game after he threw 7 innings of 5-hit ball.
The 84s were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth when pinch hitter Jimbob Ghostkeeper turned a 2-0 fastball from An Jang-Yop into a 2-run home run. The walk-off home run sent a roar through the crowd and gave Greenville a thrilling 3-2 win.
"I don't care a whit about getting a sweep," Ghostkeeper said. "The only part of it that matters to me is it means we've got a lot of chances to get that last win."
