Centennial Score Late to Upend Ducks, 4-1
|
Long Island got a terrific performance from pitcher John Sawyer, but it wasn't enough to beat the Fort Knox Centennial. Fort Knox won the Ducks Park contest, 4-1. Sawyer was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 5 innings of 4-hit ball. Fort Knox reliever Carlos Solís picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Jim Sousa absorbed the loss. Ipe van Veldhuizen got credit for the save for Fort Knox. It was his 2nd of the year.
Fort Knox used the clutch hitting of Rocky Moran to capture the win. The right fielder drilled a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to give the Centennial the lead, 2-1. For the game, Moran had 1 single and 1 double in 4 at-bats.
In postgame comments to the Fort Knox Times, Moran said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
Fort Knox, now 52-43, holds 4th place in the Premier R.
