Shockers Pin 6-3 Loss on Cougars
|
With right fielder Bill Kirby leading the charge, the Surprise Shockers defeated the Valley View Cougars, 6-3, at ďAbbots Ballpark. Kirby, who is tied for 9th in the PR in extra base hits with 27, went 1-2 with a home run, 2 walks, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2. Tim Eastham, the winner, improved to 4-5. He held the Cougars to 2 earned runs on 4 hits over 6 innings, while striking out 6 and walking 1. José Martínez notched his 12th save in 17 chances.
The game was on the line with two out in the top of the seventh inning, but Trent Crowder didn't flinch. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and Valley View trailing 5-3, Crowder retired Pepe Fontirroig to end the threat. "Nothing to it," said Crowder, with a wink.
Surprise, now 32-50, holds 8th place in the Premier R.
