Claude Khatoon never let Fort Knox get something going. The Surprise right-hander commanded his cutter in pitching the Shockers to a 3-1 win. José Martínez closed the door for Surprise, picking up his 10th save of the year. Surprise, at 30-47, occupies 8th place in the Premier R.
Surprise relied on the hitting of Ernest Lesley to pick up the win. The third baseman clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Shockers on top, 2-0. For the game, Lesley had 1 home run and 2 singles in 4 at-bats.
"Baseball is about momentum," said Lesley, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
