Shockers Take Nail-Biter Over Lead Sox
|
Surprise overcame a superlative game from Carlos Poujol to beat Indiana, 3-2. The Indiana pitcher took player of the game honors in a losing cause. He threw 7 innings of 2-hit ball. Surprise reliever José Martínez was the winner. His record is now 4-0. Gregorio Cossiga took the loss. Indiana is in the throes of a 11-game skid.
Late in the game, left fielder Bill Kirby had a big at-bat for Surprise. In the bottom of the tenth, he hit a run-scoring single off Gregorio Cossiga. The play gave the Shockers a 3-2 lead.
"It's great to get the crowd pumped up," Kirby said.
