Rams Fall Short, 5-4, at Valley View

In a tight contest at Hillandale Grounds, the Valley View Cougars edged the Ladue Rams by the score of 5-4. Valley View left fielder Matt Méndez, who blasted 2 home runs, was named the player of the game. Chris Plautz, the winner, improved to 4-7. He held the Rams to 2 earned runs on 6 hits over 6.1 innings, while striking out 4 and walking 4. Esteban Sánchez, credited with the save, is now 2 for 5 in save opportunities.
London, England-born Samual Johnson came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the second, with runners on 1st and 2nd and the Cougars trailing 1-0, he hit a 2-run double to right to put Valley View on top.
"It was our day today," Johnson told the Valley View Times. "But we've got to keep our nose to the grindstone."
The Cougars bumped their record to 32-28 with this latest triumph.
