Shockers Slip Past Crowley, 3-2
The Crowley Cajuns got a superb performance from pitcher Mauro Sandín. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Surprise. The Shockers won the game, 3-2. In spite of the loss, Sandín was named the player of the game. He threw 6 innings allowing 1 run. Surprise reliever Juriaan van Maaren picked up the win, upping his record to 1-1. Felipe Nieves took the loss. José Martínez got credit for the save for Surprise. It was his 5th of the year.

The game was at a stalemate until catcher Steve Murdock came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Crowley pitcher Felipe Nieves, he hit a 1-0 fastball for a run-scoring double. It was a game-changer, putting Surprise on top, 3-2.

"When this team comes together and plays the way we can, we can compete with anyone," said Murdock. "I think we're going to keep proving that."

Even with the win, the Shockers have a dismal 17-38 record.
