Screaming Eagles Clip Shooters, 3-2
|
The Mercer Island Screaming Eagles defeated the Springfield Shooters, 3-2, in USPL Double A action at Springfield Stadium, with Mercer Island pitcher Nicky Bogdan named player of the game. Luis Oropeza notched his 7th save in 11 chances. The Screaming Eagles own a robust 57-31 mark.
It could have been a different outcome for Mercer Island, had it not been for Frank Ray, the 23-year old second baseman . Ray contributed a 2-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put Mercer Island up, 3-1.
Afterward, Screaming Eagles manager Richard Weaver was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
