Grey Wolves Come Up Short at Portland
|
Evergreen Park was the site of a competitive game between the Vancouver Grey Wolves and Portland Evergreens.
Giovanni Mireles never let the Grey Wolves get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his fastball, to pitch the Evergreens to a 2-1 win. Mireles went 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 8. His record improves to 9-7. Raúl Romero sewed up the save, his 15th.
Billy Dotson dealt the Grey Wolves a blow in the bottom of the third. Batting with a runner on 2nd and Portland leading 1-0, Dotson, who is on pace for 76 RBI this season, hit a 2-2 splitter for a run-scoring single.
Mireles attributed the win to "energy and focus on the part of everyone."
Portland is now 58-39, 3 games up in the Premier League.
