Boston beat New Orleans on the strength of starter Juan Sánchez's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a 7-3 win. Sánchez, the winner, moves to 2-0. He threw 6.2 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 2 and giving up no walks. Boston improves to 6-4 as they look to defend their championship.

Boston relied on the bat of Dennis Wacher to get the win. The third baseman ripped a 2-run home run in the top of the second inning to put the Patriots ahead, 2-1. For the game, Wacher had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.
