Tight Tilt Goes to Grasshoppers, 4-3
|
The Mercer Island Screaming Eagles and San Bernardino Grasshoppers provided some drama at Field of the Grasshoppers.
The San Bernardino Grasshoppers picked up a win at Field of the Grasshoppers, knocking off the Mercer Island Screaming Eagles, 4-3. Starting pitcher Tracy Cowdin, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. San Bernardino reliever Ricardo Morales picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Nicky Bogdan was saddled with the loss.
Had Lawrence Stokes not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Stokes hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Grasshoppers.
"We played hard and won," said Cowdin. "Sometimes, baseball really is that easy.'
Their 17-19 record puts the Grasshoppers 7th in the Premier AA.
