Shooters Score Late, Upend Screaming Eagles, 7-6
|
The Springfield Shooters topped the Mercer Island Screaming Eagles by the score of 7-6, with the largest share of the credit going to shortstop Lucas Smith. Smith was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Shooters. Springfield reliever Gilberto Chávez was the winner. His record is now 1-0. Had Cornell MacDonald not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, MacDonald hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 7-6, in favor of the Shooters.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," MacDonald told the Springfield Daily.
