Evergreens Pick Up 5-3 Win
|
The Evergreens had to overcome a fine effort from Las Vegas pitcher Kagetoki Matsubara to grab a narrow 5-3 win at The Strip. Matsubara went 6 innings and allowed 3 earned runs. Vicente Durango, credited with the win, is now 7-1. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. Mark Zaugg locked down his 5th save.
Portland used the timely hitting of Jeff Solís to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Evergreens on top, 5-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"I still think this team has room for improvement," Solís told the Portland Today.
Portland is now 48-29, 5 games up in the Premier League.
