Schaefer belts 2 home runs, Evergreens Move to 41-26
|
The first-place Portland Evergreens welcomed Charleston to Evergreen Park.
The Portland Evergreens bested the Charleston Battery, 8-4, at Evergreen Park. John Schaefer was named player of the game. He went 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and 2 walks. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Reliever Vicente Durango picked up the win. His record improves to 5-1. Melvin Tiburcio took the loss.
Schaefer contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Portland in the bottom of the fifth. With his team trailing 4-3, Schaefer took a cutter from Melvin Tiburcio and stroked the home run to left-center. His 16th home run of the season allowed the Evergreens to leap in front, 5-4.
"It feels good to get this one," Schaefer told the Portland Today.
Portland leads the Premier League by 3 games.
