Powell Delivers Walk-Off Win for Battery
Chicago got a terrific performance from first baseman Melvin Thomas, but it wasn't enough to beat the Charleston Battery. Charleston won the Charleston Armory contest, 7-6. Thomas was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He was 3 for 4 with a triple, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Charleston reliever Kenete Daku picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Shang-de Fu shouldered the loss. The Battery improved to 25-25.

Spencer Powell was the walk-off hero for Charleston. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Battery designated hitter hit a dramatic solo home run to send the teams home.

"It was a nice win for our side today," said Battery manager Matt Hunt. "Not perfect, but we'll take it."
