Patriots Bang Out 6-3 Win Versus Philadelphia 1776
|
Philadelphia 1776 got a terrific performance from pitcher Gilberto Pontojá, but it wasn't enough to beat the Boston Patriots. Boston won the Dunkin Donuts Park contest, 6-3. Pontojá was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 7 innings of 5-hit ball. Bradley Roth closed the door for Boston, picking up his 2nd save of the year. The Patriots' win now puts them at 26-17.
Dennis Wacher hit a 2-run triple off Gilberto Pontojá in the bottom of the seventh, which put the Patriots in front, 4-3. Wacher had 1 single, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 2 for 3.
Wacher expressed little emotion after the game. "Every game we win now," he said, "is one less win we'll need to get in the end."
