Torres Helps 84s Run Win Streak to 3
|
The Greenville 84s beat the Las Vegas Flamingos, 9-1, at 84s Field. The 84s got a fine performance from shortstop José Torres, who captured player of the game honors. He was 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4. Júlio Valenzuela got the win, improving to 1-1. He worked 6 innings, giving up 1 run on 6 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 2. The save was credited to Liam Thomson, his 1st.
With Greenville leading 3-0 in the bottom of the second, Torres hit a cutter from Luis Peña for a grand slam home run. It was his 5th home run of the season and put the 84s ahead, 7-0.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Torres told a Greenville Times reporter. "Sometimes we need just to relax."
Las Vegas, at 8-14, has lost 4 straight.
