Hotspur Lose to Dutchmen, 4-3
|
The New Amsterdam Dutchmen did just enough to secure a 4-3 victory over the Phoenix Hotspur at Dutch Master Park. Nobody did more than pitcher Floyd Cala, who captured player of the game honors. In 5 innings, Cala surrendered 1 hit, while striking out 3 and walking 1. He allowed no runs. Nelle Liefting got the save, his 11th in 13 chances.
Carlos Campos, who is tied for 4th in the SL in triples with 4, aided the New Amsterdam cause with a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh. For the game, the shortstop went 1-3 with a home run.
"We were the better team today. Maybe that won't be the case next game, but we'll enjoy it for now," Campos told the New Amsterdam Today.
New Amsterdam currently is in 8th place in the Silver League at 38-44.
