Big Day at the Plate for Hernández Not Enough for Thundercats
|
Thunder Bay withstood an impressive performance by Richardson City right fielder Juan Jose Hernández to defeat the Thundercats, 11-7, at Great Northern Field. Hernández hit 2 home runs, while adding 6 RBI and scoring twice. Cherles Gachineiro closed the door for Thunder Bay, picking up his 1st save of the year. Thunder Bay is now 18-17, Richardson City 12-23.
In the bottom of the fifth, Thunder Bay first baseman António Mendoza had a productive at-bat. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and two out, Mendoza stroked a run-scoring single to right. It made the score 7-6, Thunder Bay. For the game, he went 2 for 5 with 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
"We take it day by day here," said Mendoza, "and today was a good one for us."
