Philadelphia 1776 starter Elroy Thompkins pitched effectively against the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids at Ben Franklin Memorial Coliseum. The right-hander led his team to a 4-2 win. Thompkins, now 7-4, was the winner. In 7.2 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 3, walking 1, and allowing 2 earned runs. Northern Virginia's current losing streak is now 4 games.
Philadelphia 1776 grabbed control in the bottom of the sixth. With two out and a runner on 3rd, Kelvin Abbott delivered a run-scoring single, to make it 3-2 in favor of the BC.
"Like I've always said, I'm the straw that stirs the drink," Thompkins said (again).
