Coeur Beat Hotspur, 4-1
|
St. Louis starter Aimo Latva put a stranglehold on the Phoenix offense. The left-hander had complete command of his slider in leading the Coeur to a 4-1 win. Latva went 7.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 0, and struck out 6. His record improves to 7-8. Eijiro Takahashi finished to wrap up his 2nd save.
The Coeur got a big at-bat from center fielder Phil McCroskey. For the game, McCroskey was 1 for 4. In the top of the sixth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 80th hit of the season gave St. Louis a 2-1 lead.
"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said St. Louis skipper Scott McMahon.
St. Louis is now 43-53, while Phoenix is 43-53.
