Thundercats Turn Back Brooklyn, 8-6
|
Brooklyn got a terrific game from right fielder Mike Gillespie. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Richardson City, 8-6. Gillespie was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He went 2-5 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 times and drove in 4. Stanford McCain, credited with the win, is now 7-1. He allowed 5 runs on 7 hits in 5 innings. Miguel Aguilar earned the save for Richardson City, his 1st of the year.
Santiago, Dominican Republic-born Tomás Martínez came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the fifth, with a runner on 1st and the Thundercats trailing 5-4, he hit a 2-run home run to left-center to put Richardson City on top.
"It was a nice win for our side today," said Thundercats manager Imran Kopitar. "Not perfect, but we'll take it."
The slumping Dodgers have lost 7 straight.
