Almost There: Chicago On Cusp of R1 Triumph After 3-1 Win
|
The Chicago Gold Sox have a critical edge over the Atlanta Smoke in the Round 1, thanks to the veteran arm of Eddie Kop.
Kop, 31, put on a dominant performance at Smoke Ballpark today, leading the Gold Sox to victory, 3-1, in a pivotal Game . Chicago is now one game away from the United States Premier League Championship, leading the best-of- series by a margin of - . Atlanta will need to win both remaining games to advance.
Tied up with the Smoke in the top of the fifth inning, the Gold Sox got a boost from right fielder Jay Hood. With the bases empty, Hood saw a 2-2 curveball from Calvin Beck and hit a solo home run to break the stalemate and put Chicago on top, 2-1.
"Some of the guys in here work hard, some of the guys just kind of fall out of bed and get it done. Whatever works I guess, we won this one," Hood told the Chicago Herald.
