Home Field Advantage: Sakei, Phoenix Open Round 1 with Win

Game was big. So was Masahiro Sakei.
In leading Phoenix to a crucial 5-2 victory over the Thunder Bay Northern Lions BC at Chase Field today, the Phoenix starter rose to the occasion, tossing 8 good innings and earning player of the game honors. Sakei threw 8 innings allowing 2 runs as the Hotspur defended their home field to seize a - lead in the best-of- Round 1.
Pierre Bernard, who is rated as the 30th best prospect by BNN, aided the Phoenix cause with a run-scoring triple in the bottom of the fifth. For the game, the left fielder was 3 for 5 with a triple and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
"It was a good effort all around," said Bernard.
