Facing elimination, the Chicago Gold Sox were looking for a savior. For today, at least, Jesús Franco delivered.

At Gold Sox Field, the 28-year old pitched a game for the ages to fend off the Greenville 84s and help the Gold Sox close their deficit in the Round 1. Franco threw a 9-inning, complete-game shutout in the 3-0 Chicago win, striking out 7 and allowing 3 hits. The Gold Sox how trail - in the best-of- series.

Franco was in the zone all game. He frustrated Greenville hitters while giving the Gold Sox 9 innings of quality work. Franco threw 120 pitches, allowing 3 hits and getting 7 punchouts.

"I just love going out and having a big game," Franco said when asked about being named player of the game. "It's an honor to have your talents recognized."
