García Goes Wild, But Flamingos Win
|
Las Vegas withstood an impressive performance by Phoenix right fielder Francisco García to defeat the Hotspur, 11-9, at The Strip. García was 4-5 with a double and 3 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 5. Juan Cardenas got the win, improving to 1-1. He worked 7 innings, giving up 5 runs on 8 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 4. Cris Herrera locked down his 5th save.
Xavier Hernández had a big 2-run single for the Flamingos in the bottom of the third inning. With Las Vegas trailing 4-1 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from Wes Hamm and stroked the single to center. It was his 9th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Flamingos ahead, 4-3.
"The boys were really swinging the bats today," winning manager JJ Hoban said.
With the win, Las Vegas is 9-5.
