The Portland Evergreens downed the Chicago Gold Sox, 8-7, at Gold Sox Field. Billy Dotson led the way, going 1-for-4 for Portland. Portland reliever Júlio Rodríguez picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Dan Crowder shouldered the loss. Shinzo Kumagai picked up the save for Portland, his 1st of the year.

Had Adrián Gómez not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Gómez hit a 2-run single. That made the score 8-7, in favor of the Evergreens.

"The boys were really swinging the bats today," winning manager Imran Baig said.

Portland, now 10-1, is playing great baseball to start the year.
