Multi-HR Day for Vega as Grey Wolves Overpower Smoke, 5-3
|
A 3-RBI performance from shortstop Wilson Vega, who is rated as the 6th best prospect by BNN, led the Vancouver Grey Wolves to a 5-3 win over the Atlanta Smoke. Vancouver reliever Francisco Valdés picked up the win, upping his record to 4-4. Kazuo Hamada was saddled with the loss. Ramón Costello, credited with the save, is now 5 for 7 in save opportunities.
Had Vega not come through in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have changed. Instead, with two down, Vega drew a walk, driving in 1 run. The Grey Wolves never looked back after taking the 4-3 lead.
"This was a good win for us," said Vega. "It's one more step toward our ultimate goal."
Vancouver occupies third place in the Premier League at 61-44.
