Evergreens Topple Rainbow Mermaids with Late Rally

Both teams had their chances, but the Portland Evergreens eventually prevailed at Atlantica.
The Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids wasted an inspired, 6.1-inning effort from starter Ramón Molina, falling 2-1 to the Portland Evergreens at Atlantica. Portland reliever Júlio Rodríguez picked up the win, upping his record to 10-1. Iván García shouldered the loss.
Willie McGirt, who is considered the best prospect in baseball by BNN, contributed to the Portland win with a solo home run in the top of the eighth. For the game, the left fielder had 2 hits in 3 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 runs batted in.
"We put together a nice win," McGirt said.
The Evergreens have an impressive 59-29 record.
