Calderón Delivers 1-0 Win
|
The Portland Evergreens went home winners at Evergreen Park, thanks in large part to starter Roberto Calderón. Calderón silenced the Boston Patriots, enabling Portland to grab the 1-0 win. The save was credited to César Albó, his 6th. Portland leads the Premier League by 7 games.
Calderón, a native of Barcelona, Venezuela, was dealing all game. He kept Boston hitters off-balance, while giving the Evergreens 8.2 quality innings. Calderón threw 101 pitches, allowing 7 hits and striking out 6.
Afterward, Evergreens manager Imran Baig was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
