Multi-HR Day for Mayfield as Cattlemen Overpower Nuggets, 6-4

With right fielder Rick Mayfield leading the charge, the Ft. Worth Cattlemen defeated the Rocky Mountain Nuggets, 6-4, at The Cattle Pen. Mayfield, who is tied for 5th in the 3L with a .628 slugging percentage, hit 2 home runs. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2. Gustavo Pérez got the win, improving to 3-4. He pitched 7.1 innings, giving up 7 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 3 and walking 2. Ricardo Ruíz got credit for the save for Ft. Worth. It was his 2nd of the year.
A crucial at-bat came with runners on 1st and 3rd and two out in the bottom of the seventh inning. That's when left fielder Jesús Morales, who is tied for 9th in the 3L in total bases with 74, got hit by a pitch. The Cattlemen went on to win.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Ft. Worth manager Scott Thompson.
The slumping Nuggets have lost 10 straight.
