Stingers Edge Hotspur, 5-4
|
The Phoenix Hotspur got a superb performance from pitcher Miguel Rubia, but the Toledo Stingers still won the game, 5-4. Rubia was named the player of the game despite the loss. He threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball. Earning his 14th save for Toledo was An Jang-Yop. Phoenix, at 27-31, has lost 5 straight.
Had Brett Callison not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Callison hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Stingers.
"I was a little disappointed," said Phoenix manager Michael Esposito. "We could've and should've scored more runs."
