The Philadelphia 1776 BC picked up a win at Evergreen Park, knocking off the Portland Evergreens, 5-2. Starting pitcher Elroy Thompkins, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. Tony Solíz got credit for the save for Philadelphia 1776. It was his 10th of the year. Philadelphia 1776 is now 28-29, while Portland is 39-18.
Mikko Haataja's at-bat in the top of the fourth was significant for the BC. Coming to the plate with a runner on 2nd and Philadelphia 1776 leading 2-1, the shortstop reached on an error by the SS, driving in 1 run.
"It was just a matter of executing," said Philadelphia 1776 manager Josh Swain.
