Rainbow Mermaids Continue Hot Streak with Extra-Inning Win
|
Both teams had their opportunities, but in the end, the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids got the win.
The Portland Evergreens got a superb performance from pitcher Giovanni Mireles. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Northern Virginia. The Rainbow Mermaids won the game, 4-3. In spite of the loss, Mireles was named the player of the game. He threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball. Northern Virginia reliever Christian Mustard picked up the win, upping his record to 4-1. Shinzo Kumagai shouldered the loss.
Melito Báez made it 4-3 in favor of Northern Virginia when he delivered a run-scoring single. It came with no one out in the top of the tenth. The Rainbow Mermaids went on to win.
"When I'm in the lineup, I always feel like we're going to win the game," said Báez.
The 6th-place Rainbow Mermaids have won 4 straight.
