Báez Hits 2 home runs in Rainbow Mermaids Win
|
In a low-scoring affair between the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids and the Chicago Gold Sox, pitcher Melito Báez was the difference between victory and defeat. The Northern Virginia right-hander earned player of the game honors in the 3-2 Rainbow Mermaids win. Ricardo García got the win, improving to 5-3. He worked 7 innings, giving up 2 runs on 7 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 1. Northern Virginia is now 22-25.
Báez had a game-changing home run in the top of the sixth. On a full count cutter from Tony Alfonso, he banged a 2-run home run to right, giving the Rainbow Mermaids a 3-2 lead. It was the 5th home run of the year for Báez.
Báez attributed the win to "energy and focus on the part of everyone."
