Stingers Lose to Hotspur, 7-4
|
The Phoenix Hotspur defeated the Toledo Stingers, 7-4. Earning player of the game honors was first baseman Tadayoshi Watanabe, who was 3 for 5 with a home run and a double. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Leon von Stroheim earned the win for Phoenix. He lasted 7.1 innings, allowing 4 earned runs on 9 hits, while striking out 6. With the win, he raised his record to 1-0. Losses have been few and far between for the Stingers so far this season. Their record drops to 4-1.
Phoenix center fielder Mare Riseley helped the Hotspur go up, 4-3, in the bottom of the fifth inning. With the game tied, Riseley hit a run-scoring single off Toledo pitcher Cory Sanders.
Watanabe told the Phoenix Citizen: "Win or lose, I don't want to see our team outhustled."
